1935 Epiphone Olympic 'Masterbilt' Archtop…more photos
Not too many of these in the world...1935 Epiphone Olympic 'Masterbilt'. This little handmade archtop is extremely rare, light as a feather and super responsive. Measurements approximately: 13 5/8" across the lower bout, 8 1/4" waist , 10 1/2" upper bout. Body 19" long. Serial Number 8270. The top has quite a lot of hazel fichte (Bearclaw) figure in the lower bout and features a stellar Sunburst. Neck Reset, One piece bridge, New Frets and Fretboard Work done by Hunter Allen at Glaser Instrument Repair in Nashville (Jescar Fretwire .095 wide and .047 tall dressed down to about .045). Hunter did amazing work and the guitar plays like a dream.

ReplyDeleteLooking more closely at my Epiphone I think it may be an Apollo which has " Made in USA "visible through the F holes , it measures nearly 16 inches across the lower bout , has oblong inlays on the fret board but has Epiphone Masterbilt on the headstock with the serial number stamped into the top of the headstock , apparently these were made for the British market in limited quantities hence the low serial number 185 so not really worth repairing .
ReplyDeleteHi Buck -
ReplyDeleteCame across this post really late in the game I guess. Great guitar - can you point me to some of you music that you've used this on, if you've recorded with it yet? I'd really love to hear it play. Thanks, Rich
